A new policy in relation to Q fever was ratified on 7th December 2018 by Australian Veterinary Association (AVA) to protect veterinary staff against Q fever. Basically what this means is that it is recommended for surgical staff to be vaccinated against this organism.
An excerpt of this policy follows:
“Veterinary practices should implement a policy limiting only those personnel who are protected against Q fever assisting with birth, caesarean or resuscitation of neonates.”
